Printing, dealing with a recession?
Posted on May 1, 2008 at 10:55pm, written by Ali A
Hey there, I have been watching the stock market and the American economy for the past few months and it is obvious that the US is heading into, or already is in a recession. Looking at the companies that use Mimeo, I was just curious how this downfall in the economy is effecting the sales of printing.
I understand Mimeo is a private company and I’m not asking to release sales numbers, what I want to know is being a print company for companies like Delta and Google, does Mimeo see a boost in sales or a decrease as companies like these report job cuts and loss in value?
So in short form, does the recession in the economy affect the sales in print positively, negatively or has nothing changed from the regular day to day sales?

Our sector of the printing industry remains robust with growing print volumes. This is being driven by:
- The rapid shift from offset (large quantity, long lead time) printing to digital (on demand quantities printed immediately before documents are needed).
- Digital demand coming from employees within companies that outstrips the capacity of on-site print centers (not to mention the reluctance of many companies to invest in more capital equipment).
- Changes in the regulatory environment which calls for more careful tracking of document printing and communications.
- Improvements in digital quality that far exceed what can be produced in the office.
While some customers are tightening budgets the aforementioned trends more than counter any negative pressure.
