Don’t See What You Need On the Mimeo Site: Ask for a Special Instruction
Posted on July 14, 2009 at 4:15pm, written by Douglas Jung, Creative Director
There are many printing options offered by Mimeo that are not showcased on the Mimeo site. Common examples are custom paper types, document sizes smaller than 8.5” x 11” or a special finishing option. We keep track of these requests and when they become popular, we add them as a standard feature. Here are some of the most popular “special instructions” and how to use them. Feel free to request that they get added to your account.

Bleed or Edge to Edge Printing – This is one of the most popular requests. Edge to Edge or bleed means that the document is printed right to the edge of the paper. To create this effect, the printed image is extended beyond the dimensions of the document and then trimmed back.

Kitting and Warehousing – Mimeo warehouses thousands of items for our customers which then get “kitted” with the document order. When an item such as a highlighter, book or T-shirt is stored in the warehouse, a special instruction is created for your account. When the instruction is checked, the item will be included in the order.

Saddle Stitch – Saddle stitch is a type of booklet printing using staples on the spine of the document. It is so popular that it will soon be a standard Mimeo offering. Many customers choose this type of binding to create a finished look for the document and to reduce the cost of binding.

Custom Binders, Inserts, Document Covers and Tabs – Many companies like to print documents in ways that reflect their brand. This could include company letterhead, a unique binder or even a tab set that is manufactured specifically for your document. Mimeo will create an instruction that can be selected when needed.

Head to Toe or Head to Head Printing – The majority of documents ordered are printed “head to head”. The front and back of a single page are printed in the same direction. Occasionally, we get requests for “head to toe” where each side of a page is printed in the opposite direction. In some instances, customers might prefer head to toe. For example, when ordering a wall calendar or presentation in a flip book. If you would like a document to be printed “head to toe” be sure to ask for a special instruction on the order.
