PowerPoint Presentation Tips

Seth Godin has published some good tips on how to keep PowerPoint presentations interesting. His points include:
- Buy your own font to stand out. He recommends buying one from the site Smashing Magazine.
- More ideas, fewer words
- Don’t use bullets, it means that people should take notes and not look at you. Of course at Mimeo.com we suggest printed handouts so that people can be reminded of the presentation after it is over and of course they will not have to take notes.

Where Did the Name Mimeo.com Come From?
Posted on August 11, 2008 at 10:10am, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
One of the questions that I’m frequently asked is where the name “Mimeo” came from. The simple answer is that it is derived from the word Mimeograph and on this anniversary of its’ August 8, 1876 invention, I thought it only appropriate that we pay homage to this simple revolutionary printing device.
The Mimeograph was patented in 1876 by Thomas Edison. It actually came before his other renowned inventions including the light bulb and motion pictures. A Mimeograph works by using a stencil...read more

ASTD 2008 Recap
Posted on June 10, 2008 at 8:54am, written by Keith Miller, Director, Integrated Marketing
Doesn’t seem like an entire year has gone by since I wrote the ASTD 2007 recap post, but here I am reflecting on the 2008 show in San Diego. Probably more so than ever, our team was excited to get in front of the world’s top training and development professionals to showcase our new booth, our latest product Mimeo Marketplace, and to champion our new “think inside the box” philosophy. For those of you who missed the show, thinking inside the box refers to a change in mindset when it...read more

Improving Marketing Performance
Posted on March 17, 2008 at 3:55pm, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
Great presentation by Jason Fried of 37 Signals at the South by Southwest conference on questions every person should ask before starting a project. It never ceases to amaze how many marketing or creative projects are requested without a clear understanding of the problem the project is going to solve and the impact it will have upon completion. I’m going to start every marketing meeting with the list in mind.
Here are the questions:
Why are we doing this?
What problem are we solving?

On Demand Conference & Exposition - Highlights
Posted on March 5, 2008 at 11:08am, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
The On Demand Conference and Exposition (March 3 - 6 2008 in Boston) has been my home for the last several days.
It’s striking how the printing industry is undergoing dramatic change with the transition from traditional offset printing to digital. For those not intimately familiar with offset vs. digital, offset presses produce large quantities of printed materials at relatively low cost. It requires long lead times and standardization of message. Think about 1 million plus direct mail...read more

The Power of Free
Posted on February 29, 2008 at 5:08pm, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
Great article in this months Wired magazine on the power of “Free” in promoting your business. Chris Anderson makes the case that everything digital eventually approaches “free” to the point that new business models can emerge. The best example is Google search where the product’s utility is free and then the traffic is monetized. Another example would be to give your product away for free such as someone that sends you a free sample, in the hope that replenishing a mop (think swifter) or...read more

A recent article by John Reeve in Digital Web Magazine outlines what it truly means to be a green business. The article provides an excellent collection of links to sustainability resources. John outlines three requirements for any initiative:
* Environmental Sustainability: improving one’s environmental footprint;
* Social Sustainability: improving the community in which you work and sell your product; and
* Organizational Sustainability: achieving the right work-life balance for...read more

10 Tips for Successful Event Marketing
Posted on February 11, 2008 at 11:53am, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
Every industry has a conversation that takes place everyday. That conversation or narrative is promoted via the media, blogs and in our conversations with colleagues. One of the goals for marketing is to make sure that the product or solution you are selling always appears to be a viable solution for any issues that are being discussed.
Taking my own advice to heart, I put together an industry event for marketers and advertisers called Advertising Club of New York Meetup sponsored by read more

Hi there, thanks for stopping by. I like to think of the Lounge as a virtual living room where all of us at Mimeo can connect with the most important people we know—our customers—and where they can connect with each other.
Mimeo has always been driven to explore, innovate, and be the first to bring people the “next best thing”. And that’s how we see our customers, too. We all want to do more, move faster, and constantly be creating better tools for the way we work.

Country on my Mind
Posted on November 13, 2007 at 3:45pm, written by Jeff Grill, VP Marketing
I used to hate country music. To someone that grew up on Long Island, “country” was that music sung by people with funny hats, odd accents, and instruments that aren’t found in the school marching band. Of all the radio stations in town the one with the country format was sure to be the one that would be announcing a format change in 6 months.
Recently something changed. The songs that used to sound odd, now sound mainstream, and the artists that dominate “pop” just appear odd. With...read more
